Community Support Exchange
Community Guidelines and Safety
These principles keep the Support Exchange safe, respectful, and dignified for everyone. By participating, you agree to uphold them.
Treat every person with dignity and respect.
Every person who uses this exchange — whether returning home, supporting a loved one, or volunteering — deserves to be treated with basic human decency. No condescension, no pity, no judgment.
Do not discriminate.
Discrimination based on race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, criminal record, supervision status, or economic status is not tolerated. Period.
Do not exploit people seeking help.
This exchange exists to empower, not to take advantage. Using someone's vulnerability to extract labor, money, favors, or personal information is a serious violation.
Do not request unnecessary personal information.
Only ask for information that is directly relevant to the support being offered or requested. People's histories, legal status, and personal circumstances are their own business unless they choose to share.
Do not require participation in religious or political activities as a condition of receiving basic assistance.
If a program has a faith-based or political component, the nature of that program must be clearly disclosed in advance so participants can make an informed choice. Basic help should never come with strings attached.
Do not advertise illegal, unsafe, sexually exploitative, or deceptive services.
Any listing that promotes illegal activity, endangers participants, involves sexual exploitation, or misrepresents services will be removed immediately and the submitter may be permanently banned.
Do not ask users to pay upfront fees to receive employment.
Legitimate employment opportunities do not require job seekers to pay before starting work. Any listing requesting upfront payment for a job will be removed.
Do not offer regulated services without proper licensing or insurance.
Professional legal, medical, mental-health, barbering, cosmetology, transportation, construction, and other regulated services must not be offered without the licenses and insurance required by local law. If you're offering professional services, be prepared to verify your credentials.
Providers must clearly disclose costs, limitations, requirements, and availability.
Transparency builds trust. If there are costs, waiting periods, eligibility requirements, or limited availability, state them upfront. No surprises, no hidden conditions.
Meet in safe, public, or professional locations when appropriate.
For in-person support, choose locations that are safe and accessible — public libraries, community centers, houses of worship, or professional offices. Avoid private residences for initial meetings whenever possible.
Still Standing may remove listings or suspend accounts when there are credible safety, fraud, discrimination, or exploitation concerns.
We take every concern seriously. If we receive credible reports of unsafe, fraudulent, discriminatory, or exploitative behavior, we will investigate and take appropriate action — including removing listings and suspending access — to protect the community.
